2012 was the last year I remember doing something really sweet for my husband on Valentine’s Day.
I put heart-shaped window clings on his bathroom mirror, made him a fancy card, and gave him a jar filled with notes of reasons that I loved him.
I think he appreciated my effort, but it just wasn’t his thing.
My love language is words of affirmation, so that’s naturally the type of thing I think do for him. But his love language is physical touch, so I was way off base.
It took me several years to learn that there is no point in spending my time and money to get my husband something for Valentine’s Day that he doesn’t want.
But now, after over a decade of being married, I have finally figured out what husbands, at least mine, really want for Valentine’s Day.
7 Things Your Husband Really Wants for Valentine’s Day
1. Sex
It’s number one for a reason, ladies. If your husband tells you he wants something other than sex for Valentine’s Day, he is lying. Whether it’s his birthday, Valentine’s Day, or any day that ends in y, this is what he wants most.
2. Time to themselves
There’s something about having kids that makes a parent want some time to themselves. Plus, becoming a parent drastically cuts your “me time.” Most husbands would appreciate some quiet, alone time to do whatever they want to do. Pair it with the next item your husband wants for Valentine’s Day, and he will be in paradise.
3. Food
There is a reason that people say, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” I like to tell my husband that is exactly how I won him over when we first met—by buying him lunch. I am going to assume that most men love meat, so consider getting him Omaha Steaks or a Butcher Box subscription.
4. Lingerie
This goes right along with the first thing your husband wants for Valentine’s Day. My practical nature thinks lingerie is a waste of money, but men don’t seem to feel that way. If you want to really surprise your husband, this is a good way to do it. (I hope he doesn’t have any heart issues.)
5. Gift for his hobby
Most men have a hobby that they enjoy whether it’s sports, hunting, video games, boating, etc. Get him something that ties in to his hobby: sports memorabilia or tickets, boating or hunting gear (Can you tell I don’t know much about these?😜), or a new video game.
6. Alcohol
My hubby isn’t much of a drinker, but I know most men have a favorite drink of choice. Get him a pack of his favorite brand or treat him to something new to try.
7. Massage
Almost everyone, man or woman, loves a good massage. Even my dad, who is the hardest person on the planet to shop for, loves a massage. You could buy your husband a single massage or sign him up for a monthly membership.
Hopefully, one of these suggestions will help you save your money and your sanity. Treat your husband to something he really wants for Valentine’s Day.
