I don’t subscribe to many magazines, but Magnolia Journal is one that I never let lapse. One, because it’s from Joanna Gaines, and I love her, and two, because it is always packed with wisdom like this:
“Spring reminds us that beauty and light are never far from our reach. Like the buds that burst from their branches, who we are the our core is deep-rooted and waiting to be unearthed.”
I love that imagery, and just like plants underground, I think there are things waiting to be unearthed in us too.
Seasons are beautiful, and spring is one of the most beautiful.
Spring is the perfect occasion to take a look at the areas of our lives and consider whether they might benefit from a reset.
Just think of the grass, flowers, and trees that bring forth something new this time of year.
I think you and I should have the same opportunity.
7 Areas You Can Reset this Spring
1. Meal Rotation
Now that the weather is warming up, you may no longer be in the mood to eat soups, stews, and heavier foods. So create a new meal rotation packed with meals that you will want to make all season long. Look through your family’s favorite meals and put together a list of 15-30 that you would like to eat regularly this spring.
2. Home Décor
Every spring, I look forward to the day when I can start opening the windows and letting a little fresh air into my home. I like freshening everything up in spring, including my décor. Consider bringing in fresh flowers, swapping heavy blankets and throws for light ones, and getting spring-colored throw pillows.
3. Home Organization
They call it “spring cleaning” for a reason, my friends. When I can open the windows and let a little light in, I get inspired to tackle some projects I only do occasionally like washing our bed covers, cleaning ceiling fans and decluttering our rooms. I like this 28-day spring cleaning challenge from The Budget Mom; it feels so doable.
4. Routine
Spring can be a reason to reset your routines, whether they are daily, weekly, or monthly. We all like to get outside more in spring, which means I have to make more free time in the afternoons and weekends. And it’s not just more playtime. Maybe you want to move your morning routine to the porch or start hanging your laundry to dry outside. Or perhaps, you need to make time to plant and cultivate your garden. Even if you don’t anticipate your routines changing much, it is worth thinking about them to decide if they are still serving you.
5. Exercise
Again, outside, outside, outside. Most walkers and runners anticipate spring so they can get off the treadmill and take their steps outdoors. If you prefer to exercise at home or at the gym, use the new season to consider your exercise routine. Do you need to change something up? After all, your body adjusts to whatever exercise you do, which is why we have to switch it up occasionally.
6. Wardrobe
Anyone looking for an excuse to shop? Me too. When you get your spring clothes out, take a look at your wardrobe and decide what is missing or what needs to be replaced. Then make a list of what pieces you need, and be on the lookout for good sales. Don’t forget about shoes and accessories as well. Clothing helps express who you are, so make sure your spring wardrobe is stocked with pieces you love.
7. Goals & Habits
It may not always feel like it, but the New Year has long passed. Take a look at your goals. Are they still the things you want to focus on? Have circumstances changed or has your heart changed? Are there things you need to remove or add? Do the same thing with habits. Will your daily habits lead you to where you want to be at the end of spring? If not, what is the first baby step you should take to become that person or do that thing? Make that the first habit you will tackle.
This season is all about new beginnings. You can choose to see spring as just the beginning of better weather or an opportunity to reset your life.
