I may be an exception to the rule, but I actually like Valentine’s Day. I am on board for any occasion that prompts me to show my husband and girls that I love them.
However, after all the toys and other stuff they received for Christmas, I am not on board with getting my girls more things that would add clutter to our home.
And, Valentine’s Day isn’t a holiday that I want to spend a lot on.
I was determined to find gifts that were inexpensive and didn’t add to the clutter in our home. For me, that meant the gift had to be consumable, practical, or take up very little space.
If you are an aspiring minimalist like me, then these clutter-free Valentine’s Day gift ideas would be perfect for your young kids as well.
7 Clutter-Free Gifts Under $25 for Young Kids
1. Gift card
This doesn’t have to be a gift card to a store where your child can get more toys. What about a gift card to their favorite restaurant, ice cream shop, or clothing store?
2. Art supplies
My daughter loves to draw and make things, so she loves getting new crayons, markers, coloring pencils, construction paper, craft scissors, washi tape, notebooks, and paint. And, because she uses those things so often, they do not add clutter to our home for long.
3. Clothes
Most kids need clothing at all times for two reasons: 1) They grow out of and wear out everything quickly, and 2) They see new things they want, like a shirt with the most popular movie character or new shoes.
4. Movie or theater tickets
Do a Google search to see what movies are headed to theaters and DVD to see if there is something coming out that your kid would like to see or own.
5. Accessories
Accessories are well-loved by my girls. The ideas are nearly limitless with backpacks, purses, shoes, hair accessories, jewelry, belts, sunglasses, and hats.
6. Activity kits
What does your child enjoy doing? Kids who like to help you cook might enjoy a basket of ingredients for a recipe they can make mostly themselves. Artists might like a cardboard item to decorate, like this submarine from Michaels. If they are into science, maybe they would like a science experiment kit. Put together an activity box that allows them to do something they enjoy.
7. Nicer everyday essentials
Try taking my oldest daughter through a store like Walmart or Target, and she will ask for everything from a new lip gloss to a Frozen water bottle to character-themed fruit snacks. So, one idea would be to buy your child nicer items that they use regularly, such as bedding, toothbrushes or lunch bags.
I’d love to hear what you get your kids for Valentine’s Day. Just send me a message on Facebook or Instagram, and maybe I’ll share your idea on social media.
