We’re wives, moms, professionals, daughters, friends, etc. Meaning, we have a lot going on. But let’s be honest, Valentine’s Day has been special since those high school days when we wanted to have a boyfriend so he would (hopefully) send us flowers and balloons to school for everyone to see.
We’re adults now, but we still want to make the day special even though we only have about 15 minutes of spare time and energy to spend planning it. So I compiled a few ideas for great, easy-to-grab gifts and a low-cost way to make Valentine’s Day special for the whole family.
5 Easy, Sure-to-Please Valentine Gifts
- Gift Cards
I used to think buying gift cards was a cop out. But really, who wouldn’t enjoy a card from their favorite store and some dedicated alone time to go there. Any mom or dad would love it, and even kids would love a shopping trip to their favorite store. - Do Something
Make your spouse a special breakfast, have their car cleaned, send them on a golf day or give them a free afternoon to binge watch their favorite show. These are just a few ideas to get your wheels turning. Give your kids a coupon for a mommy-child date, and let them choose everything you will do. - Subscription Boxes
These are all the rage in a variety of themes from food, to activities to personal care products. Whatever your husband or kids’ preference, there’s probably a box they would love. - Entertainment
It’s hard to go wrong with buying a magazine subscription, book, movie or album. - Hobbies
Whether your spouse is into video games, sports, hunting or technology, there’s some kind of accessory or memorabilia you can find to fit their personality. The same goes for your kids. Are they into sports, dance, art, or science? Buy them something that fits with something they enjoy doing.
And for a Valentine-themed family celebration, head to your nearest dollar store and pick up a few things for this simple dinner.
- Serve a red themed meal like spaghetti. Spaghetti sauce and pasta are easy to find at the dollar store, but you may need to hit the grocery for a salad or dessert.
- Pick up a handful of themed items to decorate your table like a tablecloth, balloons or centerpieces.
- Buy a pack of valentine cards to give to those you see throughout Valentine’s Day– the cashier at the store, the workers at daycare, the front desk worker at the gym, etc. Even adults want to feel special, and yours might be the only valentine they receive.
- Take turns going around the table and say something you love about each person.
