The week between Christmas and New Year’s Day is one of my favorites. By that time, I’m ready for all the Christmas decorations to be put away and excited to start dreaming about the new year and all the things I want to tackle.
But there is something about New Year’s Eve that is anti-climatic.
I am married with two little kids; you will not find me at a bar or party, and all the countdowns on TV aren’t as entertaining as they used to be.
Yet, I still want New Year’s Eve to be a fun celebration.
So here are some ideas for how you can celebrate the night without creating a ton of work for yourself.
5 Easy, At-Home New Year’s Eve Celebrations
- Play board games.
Really, I will make any excuse to play board games. Invite a couple of friends or family over and pick your favorite games to make memories and share laughs. Some of my favorites include Taboo, Pictionary and Scattergories. - Make a new year bucket list.
Sit down with your family and make a list of things you’d like to do in the upcoming year. These printable by the Art Bar Blog, While He Was Napping, and Moritz Fine Designs will give you some ideas to get you started. - Have a movie night.
Watch a new movie you’ve been wanting to see or have a movie marathon with pizza and popcorn. Rotten Tomatoes is a great place to find what movies are coming to DVD soon. For movie marathon, try favorites like Star Wars, Toy Story, Harry Potter, Marvel or DC superhero movies, James Bond or Despicable Me. - Review the past year’s pictures and videos.
I can easily forget things we have done in the past year, so picture-storing sites like Shutterfly, Amazon Prime Photos or Google Photos are great for going back to review the year and remember all the wonderful things that happened. And, if your family is up for it, try this free New Year’s Eve question game from Artsy Fartsy Mama. - Make countdown packages.
If your crew can make it until midnight (the Conways will all be in bed), check out this post from The Dating Divas and create bags to open every hour that includes a fun game or treat to keep your family going all night long.

Oprah Winfrey said, “The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.”
I totally agree.
So no matter whether you are going out or staying in, going to bed at 9 or staying up until midnight, take the time to celebrate the wonderful things in your life.
